Totally agree about the hijacking of this celebration in December. I send cards wishing everyone a happy 'Years End' or Seasons greetings. More people should point out that 'christ'(supposedly 'Jesus') was not born at this time of year, if at all! All the celebratory rituals are pagan, or have originally atheistic meaning and sentiment, and some are even anti-christian. Religious people don't even bother to find out what it is they are engaging in, and are just behaving like brainwashed sheep.
John
Don't decorate the house because am clinically idle. Put cards up and keep presents in a corner of the front room and that about it.
Used to put a tree up but found getting rid of the thing so tedious haven't bothered for a few years.
Glad you send cards, really is up to you what you write in them, it's the goodwill that's important rather than the words.
how very sad!! ! I feel very sorry for Mr Hunt that he has no faith!! One day he will find out that he was so wrong!! a very happy Christmas to you Mr Hunt? god bless you!!
Why bother commenting on an event that is a celebration about someone who in your view doesn't exist? Us religious people are well aware that Jesus was probably not born in December but as the early church did not know the exact date, they used an existing celebration to mark the event.
I guess atheists don't mind working on Christmas day then?
Not quite sure why anybody would want to be a Minister of Atheism?
I beleive that Christmas is for the shareholders - The rich - The top 1%.
More fool the mugs who are brainwashed into falling for it, transfixed by meaningless perfume adverts and badgered by false need creating advertisement fuelled children.
Faux Christian Lemmings, the lot of you!
Having just watched your little film, I feel genuinely sorry for you John as you clearly don't seem to exude any joy. It is amazing being able to take time in our busy year to acknowledge how God came down to earth and became man through Jesus. It may not be the actual month but acknowledging this incredible moment of love will fill you with a joy that surpasses all understanding. Take away all the 'rituals' and you are left with the real reason of Christ-mas, the rest is just religious and I'm not religious nor was Christ. Religion is us reaching up to God but Christ came to us for a real and life changing relationship with the true creator.
John, I pray that some element of this remarkable gift of God will touch your heart this Christmas and that you will experience true joy.
God Bless
Kirsty
A very sad presentation from a very sad looking person who really needs the true message of Christmas himself : The fact that Jesus came to bring Good News
I have to say, that this is perhaps the worst advert for the Oxymoronic "Church of Atheism" - This guy seems to be totally void of any emotion. Some people like Ricky Gervais make good points about religion and the contraditions, etc in a humorous way. However, it seems to be rather one sided, as you never hear about atheists moaning about "silly baby Mohammed" and his "imagined up Allah"...so, if you're true to being atheists, criticise all religions and not just Christianity, and please, liven up, boring is not a good advert for any "religion" ;o)
i dont believe that cristians have hijacked christmas i think people have, nearly every household in the UK has a christmas tree yet i doubt more than 50 percent are celebrating souly christ its about the spirit and everyone knows that. its about being an individual and the religious and none religious will both struggle to find that, ;). i also believe that athiests are in self disposition of god in order to find god and will use denile to find god in an effort to see, i am not religious but have found god. for everyone its more and less painfull thats the first clue.
Good on you, John. Saturnalia updated, yes. And 'Christmas' for those who fancy it, why not? It's just a comforting cuddly idea in Christians' heads. An agnostic, I shall, if fate permits, be lunching on December 25 with others of a similar persuasion and we shall be enjoying fellowship, good conversation, food and wine as we do at other times of the year. It's an opportunity to get together and we value the day as we value each day. It's good to be alive and that's enough. Presumptuous to ask for more.
How ever can John Hunt, claim to be the first minister of the "First church of Atheism" The term Church is a Christian term meaning the called out ones, the only other use is the church in the wilderness which relates to the Jews in the wilderness who were called out of Egypt to go into the promised land.
While it may be true that the 25th of December may not be the birthday of Christ, no one really knows, it even could be in the spring. But the date is unimportant, we also don't need a tree, lights, decorations even the food. But the important thing is that Jesus came into the world, its an historical fact. Jesus has changed the world, its through Christianity that we have Hospitals, Schools and moreover countless lives have been changed for the better; but thats only the beginning those who have trusted Christ as their Saviour have had their lives transformed. Moreover this world is going to see furthur transformation when Jesus returns and takes up the government of this earth, all the wrongs will be put right, John will have to admit that Jesus Christ is Lord "Every knee willbow, every tongue willconfess that Jesus Christ is Lord" those in heaven the Angelic hosts those under the earth demonic hoards, all Atheises orgnastics. So he had better repent now and get right with God before its too late .Godn to-day is dealing with mankind on the principle of grace, forgiveness is available but then on the basis of judgment
I can't disagree with John's view more, but it has to be said, what is the point in celebrating Christmas when you don't believe in or agree with any of the true meaning of Christmas? People who don't believe in God have every right to enjoy themselves at this time of year but have no right to say that they are celebrating Christmas. Good on you John for doing your own thing. If you don't believe in it then don't 'celebrate' it.
yes, lets celebrate the shortest day, and what better than the birth of the Light of the World
Thank you John for showing us how a critical thinking person looks like. There are many intense self-inflicted joys, like the santa claus coming down the chimney one, or the invisible all loving friend in the sky, but for me the true joy is to see people like you practicing the dignity of thinking out of the circle of pious convenient lies. Merry HITCHmass, John!
Atheism is the product of an irrational mind. 0+0=0, 0x0=0 = everything can not come from nothing. Without the creative principal there is no existence. The creative principal is x the unknown = God. Without the development of our spiritual nature we are soul-less, existential, nihilistic materialists, prey to all the virtual reality science fiction phantasmagoria that mad scientists in their ivory towers can corrupt vacant minds with. Where the hell is science fiction mumbo-jumbo taking us? - obviously straight there, and what is scary promotes Satanism. Science must re-think its purpose, e.g. the Great Hadron Collider, costing up to 10 billion dollars, is looking for the 'Higgs-boson', the 'God' particle, which may not exist! 10 billion dollars would wipe famine from the face of the earth. Let's get real and stop messing up the planet. Real Christian morality as God intended. Have faith and know personally 'The Peace of God Which Passeth All understanding.'
