Good on you Karen. You are quite right, the world would be a better place without religion. Only thing is there would probably be something else to cause conflict then, like what football team you support!!! [Comment originally left on Channel4.com on 12/07/2010 at 20:08]

RM (archived) and stephen. Te world would definatelty ot be a better place without religion. The reason why we have some of the problems we have in our world today are:

1 Abuse of alcohol, drugs, use of tabacco gambling and belief in the occult.

2. Some leaders have used faith as a cover for attacking other nations and abuse of political power at home.

3. Abuse of and discrimination against others whether because of faith, gender, sexuality disbility race or
age.

4 The abue and misuse and poor dsitribution of wealth, resources knowledge and nature.

Dear Karen
What makes you think the Church says nothing about the sins you rightly abhor? Look it up, do a bit of research. Journalists are obsessed with what the Churhc says about sex, and yes, it is important, but not disproportionately so. Read a translation of 'Mit Brennende Sorge' which was what the pope at the time wrote to the German people about what he knew about what went on in the war. It is not the fault of the CHurch that thee secular media effectively ignores everything it says except about sex.

This film is so sad. Because of the hypocricy of her roman catholic church in West Belfast she now feels alienated, and is it any wonder. She was taken along to mass on a number of occasions and probably thought she was doing the right thing. She spent fourteen years in catholic education and still dosen't know what a christian is.
Basically: God made the world and all the people. Mankind sinned through the disobedience of Adam and Eve and because they sinned, God sees all of their off spring--including you and me as sinners. God has decreed that all sinners will be punished and man has not got the ability to save himself from punishment so God in His love sent His only Son Jesus to take their punishment. Christ died once as a sacrifice (never to be repeated, because He was the sinless, spotless Son of God) for the sins of His people both Jew and Gentile (those who are not Jews).
All who believe (trust) in the finished work of Christ will be saved from punishment in hell for all eternity and will go to Heaven to be with Christ which is far far better.
Karen, read the New Testament and I trust you will discover a God who loves you and a Saviour who died for you.
