Usama Hasan
How does flying Aircraft into Buildings restore lost pride and honour?
I agree as a Muslim living in the UK. Islam is peace, loving and help not hate violence or hostility
If what he says is right why do the islamists blame the West fo all the problems in the world ,when more SUNIS and Shiyas kill each other every second ,and the whole of the arab nations do not help only the west does ,NO other religion in this world kills there own people .
Dont give ex extremeist muslims a platform please. Disgusted
i only saw the last part of this but i thought it was terrible saying he celebrated 911 ,killing innocent ppl
this is england if ppl celebrate things like this they should be put on a plane and sent out of the country without messing about
NO courts NO human rights just out of here
I think he shows a lot of guts to admit his shame. I always thought extreme Islam was all about perceived emasculation and shame (from the west), not about the superiority of Islam.
Well expressed views! Honour is important of course but it begins and ends with care for others no matter what there different beliefs. Thankyou for your honesty. I wish others felt the same.
You lost your honour when you celebrated I hope you can't sleep welll after that 9/11 the people that hijacked the planes are a disgrace to the religion and should not be honoured in the death but be shamed they innocent people doing their daily jobs and people going to enjoy their holiday but find out that scumbags have other plans. I would depot them all back to their own country harsh I know but then there might be peace in the UK.
How very noble of you all. The sooner religious extremists from any faith (which seems to be predominantly Islam) realise that their archaic religion is more to blame for the wrongs in the world than racism or any kind of social exclusion, the sooner the world will be a safer and more universally understanding place to live. Racism, obviously, is ridiculous and unacceptable. But it is religion used to the extreme that provides the fuel for racial hatred. I employ the word 'used' here because faith is too often used as an excuse for the atrocities it claims are for the purpose of honour restoration. To a true 'believer', this is a shameful insult to their faith. To anyone with their head screwed on properly, it is an exercise in the most profound idiocy, as these 'extremists' will soon realise when they are not greeted in heaven by the promised batch of young virgins. When they die in a hijacked aircraft or wearing a vest packed with explosives, they die. Their life is over in the most saddening and senseless way. That is that. And it is in no way honourable. Any of the sound-minded people left behind will confirm this.
I am glad you have turned your back on the more extreme representatives of your religion, but I feel you are trying to justify terrorist sympathies with your comments on racism whilst neglecting to place some of the blame at least on the indoctrination of young muslims by certain of the leaders of your faith. You state your opinions changed after the bombings of 2005, so did you experience "exclusion from the British mainstream" during your degree studies at Cambridge and Kings College and your subsequent successful academic career at Middlesex University in the 15 years since you began your studies? I think we can agree that these institutions are fairly representative of the British "mainstream", yet did not exlude you. Was your participation in the Afghani Mujahadeen in your youth driven by exclusion by British mainstream, or was it answer to a call to arms of the faithful?
I am not saying you did not experience racism, I am merely speculating that your views may have been tainted by religious indoctrination in a 1400 year old faith which has little relevance in the modern world. You describe yourself as a scientist, yet you retracted a speech made to your mosque concerning evolution after recieving threats from your own followers. I am glad most other scientists rely on their peers for review and not their congregations. I am trying to avoid any accusations of making a strawman argument, but it is difficult when your published works seem a contradiction.
You are being disingenous by failing to note the influence of your faith in this matter and trying to find blame in society, and by your failure to condemn faith based terrorist acts. You describe these as simply "dishonourable". Really? There are far better and stronger words you could have used, yet failed to. Religious hatred is responsible for these acts and its perversion of honour and the more impressionable members of our society.
a lot of people are complaining about the fact he admitted he was an ex -extremist. what you guys don't understand is that he admitted he was WROING, and he later realised the best way to restore his honour and pride was to show Islam as a peaceful religion that it is. It takes huge amount of bravery to come forward and admit you mistakes and then try your best to redeem yourself from it. we all should understand that, rather than saying 'it's disgusting and it doesn't make a difference'. we've all made mistakes! the only way we can move on as sort out this violent world, is to appreciate someone admitting that they were wrong, and giving them a chance to move on and learn in peace.
You introduced the way many Muslims approach to achieve their honor and pride, dishonorable, but you didnt show the honorable way of achieving a peaceful and honorable life?
I have an inherent mistrust of any form of extremism, chiefly because I don't believe those who hold extreme views see their beliefs as such. all oppressors and/or would be oppressors tend to justify their acts by casting themselves in the role of victim, or some kind of superior individual or group. This man certainly gave the impression that he is the latter, but having read many accounts of muslim mens' treatment of women and female children, in Afghanistan, Arabia, Pakistan etc, why would they believe killing Europeans and Americans is such a big deal. I would venture to say that we, meaning the infidels have been willing to debate the differences between for example Sunni and Sheiyte for long enough. The reality is that Sharia law is a plethora of male assertions intended to subdue the others, ie, anyone who is not muslim and male. I think Islam has very little going for it.
The problem I have is this: I don't know who is a terrorist, I'm sure many "Muslims" are peace loving and are nice people, but we don't know who's who. So all are under suspect.
They call themselves "British Muslims" but do they support the British way of life?
Why is it because someone is born in this country can call themselves British?
A work colleague of mine was born in India his brother was born in Goya which at that time was Portugese their father was in the British army, and had children where ever he served. Both the children could only speak English,so is it right to claim citizenship of the one's birth rather then their historic roots?
What a load of rubbish. Show us a clip about whats really going on in the uk and ask cameron what hes gonna do to stop the problem.
religon is a way of controlling large populations, the christians demonstated this in the early years and the middle eastern countries realised that this could help them to govern more easily. All it's done is encouraged the richer people of those countries to hang on to every thing and leave the poor to their god, and the elements. If the wealth of these countries was more evenly distributed ie welfare system etc, then maybe the people from these countries would have no need to go elsewhere, and could concentrate on creating a decent homeland for themselves and future generations.
The only thing the religion of peace has ever led the world in, is bloodshead. The Zionist controlled west also has much blood on it's hands, but is not a religion.
The Muslim religion does not teach acceptance, tolerance or equality for non-Muslims. Islam was spread by extreme violence and, where that was not likely to work, by deception: that the religion was one of tolerance and peace. The idea that Muslim violence arises from racism, Israel or the Jews ignores the fact that it is advoctated, along with the denial of it, in the Koran and in the hadiths of Mohammed.
See my expose of the true nature of Islam on my website, the Christian Council of Britain.
Since you and many others have come to this country you instantly rejected our culture and traditions and tried to impose your own. This has been colonisation under the guise of immigration. Certain people, who having been abandoned by their own Marxist infiltrated establishment, tried to let you know where to get off. You do not like me, you do not like my traditions, you do not like my history, you do not like my laws, you do not like my form of government, and you constantly bleat about how badly treated you are ? Despite this, you continue to come to this country in droves in preference to any other country, often passing through perfectly safe countries to get here.
PLEASE EXPLAIN ????
This is why I vote BNP. If this had been a white > English person saying similar things to a different "race, group, country etc". He/she would have been tried for quote-on-quote "hate crimes" and charged or thrown in jail, utter hypocrisy. Terrible judgement by Channel 4 for giving a platform to this!
why do Muslims come to the UK and try to change our ways and our laws. They dont agree with the way we act, live or beheive. Most want to live in peice and without Prejudice. This is not a racist statment, but if they dont like the way this country is, or the laws of this land, why dont they go to thier motherland and live the way they want too. You cant live in a country and try to change it without ruffling a few feathers. Go to muslim run country and live in piece. The gentleman who was on this VT admits he celebrated on 9/11. how many more muslims are doing the same!!! you cant live in piece if this is the way you want to live. Go to your motherland and live the way they do, you will sone relise how good, fair and piecfull this country is.
May your god be with you.
interesting points he makes, what find more ironic doh is the fact that you celebrated the 911 attacks, attacks that were done by the zionists in order to launch more attacks in moslem countries,77 attacks were the same, inside jobs using patsies,to garish more support, but lets be honest the islamic religon is a religon of conquest, none beleivers are classed as kuffars,to put it plain terms, islam is not compatible with other religons because of its superiority complex
That's a load of crap...he`s still a Muslim...he`s trying to play it down...sympathy hunting...
Another point. If I felt 'excluded' from any group or society I would look to see what I was doing wrong and try to make myself more amenable to the people who were aparently excluding me. I hope that I would not be so arrogant and bigotted as to assume that everyone else was wrong and that I had the right to take some sort of defensive/aggressive action to assert myself against a majority who clearly, and quite legitimately, did not appear to appreciate what I apparently stood for. And if it became apparent that I and the majority were not likely to see eye to eye, I hope I would have the decency to take myself to an environment that reflected my opinions better rather than stay and make an absolute insufferable pain of myself. But then that would be too much to expect from those who congenitally insufferable pains.
I'm an atheist, so all religious motivation is barely explicable to me.
Many people on here seem offended that he is a Muslim, and are portraying the stance that he is somehow "in league" with other immigrants in trying to change British culture and has done something offensive by stating his opposition to the way some Muslims are radicalised, and how he was when he was younger. This is not logical.
The over-reaction of what appear to be fairly narrow minded people on this thread, like overt racism exactly causes the alienation that he describes in his film, and will lead to radicalised youth.
Although I would not support anyone celebrating the horrific deaths of so many innocent people, his film is about his journey in life from a radicalised young man to a more mature person who is offended by that radicalism. He was young but has grown older and more tolerant...doesn't this happen to us all? Isn't his current attitude a good role model for the younger generation?
Many men (including myself) were more aggressive in our youth, and political militant organisations take advantage of that. As we grow older our home life and families become more important to us, which makes us more communicative and diplomatic.
Good film Mr Hasan, I take my hat off to you for your bravery.
This man should do the right thing and go back to his country and his faith, you see he is an hypocrite in every sense he doesn't want to live in a muslim country and devote himself to that way of life totally because like many other muslims who want to settle in our country they truly want what the west offers and hide this by professing to have high morale values. If I didn't like a way of life or the indigenous population of that country I would have to be true to myself and my religion and leave
People the world over experience loss of honour and pride for one reason or another but few take it upon themselves to murder scores of innocent civilians as a consequence. Furthermore it's nonsense. Even a moderate amount of research demonstrates clearly that an attempt to restore pride in Islam (assuming such a concept is even possible) has little or no bearing on the causes of Islamic terrorism. Next time at least have the courtesy to indulge in some research before foistering your ill-informed apologist drivel on the general public.
Islam is anti Christian. To air theswe views in a Christiansen country is treason.
The great days of Islam was when it embarrassed science. It led the world. Today, like fundamentalist Christians, many people of your faith deny evolution but more importantly an evidence based understanding of the natural world. They also deny toleration. Islam in Britain must have its own debate. Are you for the values of the "Enlightenment",or would Islam deny its own history which led to these values in our society?
And why are many believers obsessed with sex? To me, a middle aged woman, many men who would have specific interpretation of Islam seem to revolve around this narrow, personal question instead of the greater issue.
No nation living under the flag of islam has ever been a happy one. Oppression, ignorance and an unwilligness to evolve will be this religions legacy.
For the truth -read Charles Darwin and Richard Dawkins
We firstly need a government that has the moral power, backbone, strength, and interest of the British people (such as a BNP government) to adopt & implement the same robust policy as our French neighbours by first banning the burka and making it illegal in British society - if you're an immigrant coming to Britain you either integrate and accept our Christian > British ways, cultures, aesthetics etc. OR YOU ARE NOT WELCOME! Just as we Britains would not be if we went to the third world and didn't integrate to it's ways! Why should we bend over backwards to the degradation of our culture for something that is completely 'alien to us'?
Hello Usama. Interesting but I sugest that part of the problem is because there are lots of different sects and even different ideas within the same sects thus to want to put things right with your ideas of what Islam is does not stand any chance of ALL muslims thinking in the same way. To me a club with walls around and rules you MUST obey leads to segregation from others. If a God knows what is true and correct then let that GOD do his own work, just telling a few starting with Mohamaad has not proved to be of help to the world but just a form of dictatorship. All the best.
As an American and a son of Israelis who watches this program in America, I find a lot of these shows very touching and moving. This one I found to be completely reasonable, he expressed his regrets and has moved on from them. I really don't understand the British angst that seems to revolve around Islam.

I think you got it wrong its not those who do not rest on Sunday who should be put to death ,but certain were who worked on the Sabbath the 7th day (Saturday). But even this was only enforced with a minority of cases
The Jews agreed they would be obedient to God's laws under the Old Covenant, the Jews broke their side of the agreement.
But under Christianity there is no law forbidding to work on Sunday, but Christians desire to honour the Lord on the first day of the week (Sunday) by service and worship, Christians impose nothing on unbelievers, they simply preach the gospel, then its up to the person whether they except it or reject it.
Kindest regards
radicalization, vulnerability, and openness to the ideas of extremism is not honor, neither is being a suicide bomber to kill people who you have never seen before, interacted with nor know what they stand for!
we need to counter the narrative of the perpetrator, the recruiter, the handler and the leader, using the media that will reach these vulnerable segments and re-educate them about honor, islam, and life.
Islam never led the world... Muslims were just less aware of the parts it was not leading. It never led America, Britain or Northern & Central Europe.
You can't try and apologise for terrorism by talking about 'restoring honour'. It's an ex-colonial temper tantrum- with a lot of anger particularly directed at Spain, as they used to be part of this Islamic empire. It's no more excusable than if the British government deliberately crashed planes into office blocks in India, Kiribati and Nigeria to punish the world for not belonging to Britain.
But nevetheless, at least he regrets celebrating the deaths of innocent men, women and children. Although he seems to be expecting a round of applause.
Thank you for making a positive transformation brother, and for setting this example of strength and honor. I am grateful to know you and so many other Muslims who risk their lives to speak truth to terrorism by embodying the peace that Islam is rooted in.
Don't be discouraged by the fearful and ignorant comments here. Those making them are suffering themselves. We must continue to set an example of courage, wisdom, and compassion. This practice will enrich our lives and the world around us, and will only grow stronger and more powerful in response to hatred. Love and gratitude to you!
As a former right wing extremist, and now an anti racist activist and promoter of many principles in line with compassion, I am pleased and honored o have watched this video. When I was a racist skinhead involved in explosives, shootings, and other violent acts I to celebrated the 9-11 attacks.
I now understand through experience a spiritual-social-cognitive paradigm shift that I was stuck. Stuck in hate and often viewed my hateful expression as an honor. I kow understand honor lives in compassionate walks on the path of life.
Be safe and stay strong.
Sincerely,
Daniel Gallant

Usama,
I commend you for your heartfelt honesty, bravery, and for taking responsibility for a path that you knew to be wrong. We would be a step closer to ending violent conflict were all involved parties willing to share with such openness, honesty, and compassion.
I've read the comments that have been left in response to your video and many of them sadden me. It is clear that there are so many who are unwilling to set aside hatred and prejudice to find common ground with those who are different, to empathize with the pain and struggles of others, and to view the beliefs of others, religious, political, or other, without the 'my way is the right/only way' mentality.
Never forget that you do not stand alone. Compassion, kindness, and basic human goodness are qualities we must strive toward if we are ever to heal wounds and change the hearts and minds of others who only feed into the violence with more negativity. Sadly, many of those who do just that have not yet made the self discovery that they are a large part of the problem.
Peace and love to you, brother!

It's a vicious cycle. Alienation can lead to contempt and contempt can lead to radical ideas, and feelings. Unfortunately, some don't stop there because they try to 'act' it out. They quite often are looking for an identity. So where do we begin? Immigrants that come to the West they must try to blend in with society. Everything is different from "back home". The culture, the food, the people. There is a big role here for governments to help new immigrants undertand the lay of the land. The immigrant also needs to take pride in their new land, adapt, adopt, but not necessarily lose their identity. If their new homeland is that bad, then why did they come here in the first place? Don't try to make it just like the country you just left behind. The Holy Quran says that killing one human is like killing all of humanity. It will take both the community, the perso and the government to hold hands on this and make it work!
From one end to the other. Its the middle path that leads to "real" success.
Celebrating 9/11 is the last thing I would have expected from a Muslim as the 9/11 attacks themselves are not to be blamed on Islam but the foolish uneducated people who committed them in the name of the religion. Islam teaches peace and is totally against harming innocent poeple. You shouldn't be celebrating the death of others whether they're Muslim or not! But if there are people like that around I suggest they take your advise and just concentrate on learning more about their beliefs.
