firstly extremely sorry to hear of all loss, including that of your neighbors. you say faith and your belief in fate is what helps people remain calm. i would argue the opposite is true. why is this my fate? why has the greater force made this happen? these are not questions that help people stay calm. the acceptance that tectonic plates shifting in this natural random world, and there for knowing that this event isn't about you or your fate, but an event of the world of which you happen to inhabit allows people to stay calm. you say you know that we just have to accept things, then why can you not accept that there is no greater force other than that of nature, and shifting plates which cause earthquakes, and in turn tsunamis?
This makes me feel sad.
I'm sorry this is taking place. I disagree that Budisim recomends fatalistic belief. Budist idea - Karma - it's what you do, not what you believe that counts. Evolution results in species who care for others doing well. Mammals who care for all young do better, Farmer who care for crops & animals even though they are different species do better, than those who kill Wales & create fate with Neclear Power! Winston Churchill said "we must never forget or it will happen again". When Japan once produced reliable goods people whanted at only 1% profit & for a time, stoped killing Wales & Dolfins, Japan was a happy place with a big market share.
This makes me feel humbled. I learned something from it.
A thought provoking video. I certainly agree to some degree that things are beyond control (or beyond our perceived control). Whether that is because of 'Fate' or just because the natural world and the universe is just 'chaotic'... I don't know.
this is fatalism not Buddhism!! i want to make this point clear, buddhism is action not passive like fatalism is!
