A very good point was made by Rev Macauley about how all this hatred doen't apply to adulterers - even though they are also mentioned in the Bible. Why do gay people seem singled out for vehement hatred? [Comment originally left on Channel4.com on 03/08/10 at 16:29]
I was really eager to listen to Rev Rowland Jide Macaulay argument but I was extremely disaapointed because he was just mobbling and his argument and talk didnt make sense. It is a shame that the western society is being distroyed by the so-called gay and if you are being forced to accept it. I didnt know what gay was at age 30 until i came to the west. [Comment originally left on Channel4.com on 02/08/10 at 20:08]
On the pretext of a a modern debate about homosexuality and Christianity, why is Rev Macaulay quoting Leviticus, a piece of history from the Old Testament detailing the rules to be followed by the Jewish race at that time? [Comment originally left on Channel4.com on 02/08/10 at 21:28]
This makes me feel glad, happy and humbled.
This makes me feel confused. I don't understand the speaker's point of view at all.
How can this man believe that god made him homosexual, read the bible which says that homosexuality is a crime worthy of death, and then still believe that the bible is from god + that this god is fair and loving?
I don't understand the speaker's point of view at all.
Has Rowland read the bible? The old testament and new testament work in harmony with each other. Let me explain! Homosexuality has always been wrong in Gods eyes, the same way that Adultery has always been wrong in Gods eyes! God does not hate the sinner, he hates their sin.Has he not read 1Corinthians 6-9: "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, verse 10: nor theives, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the Kingdom of God. Verse 11: And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the spirit of our God". What Bible is he reading?
I am a Christion and therefore I believe in what the Bible says is correct. The Bible totally rejects homosexuality as a sin, for which we should repent, whereas it encourages marriage between a man and a woman. The passages in the Bible which support my view are as follows:
Leviticus 18:22 and 20:23
Romans 1:26,27
1 Corintians 6:9
1 Timothy 1:10
Genisis 19:5
Yours sincerely
H Clements
This man talks sense! He says that people pick and chose what they take from the bible to then use against another persons life. But adultery is no where near as controversial as homosexuality. Yet they are comapred in the same light in the bible....
This makes me feel glad, happy, glad and happy. It reinforced what I already believed.
well said =]
Quotations from the Old Testament can become contentious sources...
"If one, then the other," right? Mandates against homosexuality therefore have as much valence as stoning your daughter, killing witches, not eating lobster, adultery tests for women that prove guilt by whether she becomes ill after drinking what may or may not be poison, stabbing someone until they excrete, killing boys via wild bears because they tease a prophet's baldness...etc.
The Pentateuch is first and foremost bound to a specific time and people, also considered as "under the Law" (versus the New Dispensation of grace). The heavy punishment of women, allowance of slavery, and alacrity toward shedding of blood as justification is evidence of that, and of how most of the world operated during that time.
While Jesus never mentioned homosexuality, Paul definitely did, which has always slightly discomfited me, especially knowing Paul's background as an overzealous person who on more than one occasion spoke or acted without compassion - before AND after conversion. Christianity is a renewing of the mind, yes, but not a lobotomy. Someone's personality doesn't necessarily switch off following conversion; which makes perfect sense when one considers his harsh treatment of Timothy (especially when compared to Barnabas) and his disrespect of the high priest while on trial (which resulted in a slap, sound reprimand, and then Paul's humble admission of wrongdoing). The fact that these things happened at all is an example of how God guides man, but doesn't expunge every misjudgment or wrong from our record or prevent them from existing.
This doesn't make him any less of an asset, any more than Peter's doubt or rashness made him useless. It just makes them fallible, and less competent than Jesus, in whose spoken words I'd put all my confidence.
Adulterers don't push their agenda on the public though still God says adultery is much a sin as homosexuality.
Are thieves born that way naturally?, are murderers born that way, naturally. Of course not, stop looking for excuses and realise that any sexual behaviour outside of the marriage of a man and woman is sin.
Problem with society is people who choose to be christian but accept the fact also that they are homosexual believe that god should accept them for being gay, so they are taking their word, over that of gods word, and therefore want to re-write the bible so they are accepted. Homosexuality is acceptable by far in modern society but homosexuals must realise that this is not acceptable in the eye of god. (coming from non religious person). The saying you cant have your cake and eat it.
according to the bible homosexuality is a sin. an abomination infact. you cannot add to Gods word or take away from it. that is dangerous and very serious. there is a man called denis jurgunin. he is a christian, before he became a christian he was homosexual. he battled for many years with this . but God set him free, amazing he is married now with 6 children.
He makes some absolutely fantastic points - I wish that there were more people like this around.
Judaism and Christianity and Islam are patriarchal bronze and iron age desert religions. They are homophobic and misogynistic male cults. Just don't be a member of them, let these faiths die a natural death which is long overdue.
He makes a very good point that the Bible discriminates strongly against women, as well as adulterers - what's different about homosexuality, except for someone's own bias point of view?
