I don't understand the speaker's point of view at all.
I received a heart transplant in 2004. I strongly believe in the opt out system. We will all die one day. Our parents, our siblings, our spouses and our children. How wonderful to think that they will live a full life and die of old age in their own beds: let us hope they will. How terrifying to think of our beloveds dying before their time for want of an organ that would be available under opt out, but instead is denied because we don't now grasp this disturbing nettle and legislate now.
We should not put a bereaved family though additional agonies over donation decisions in the midst of their unimaginable grief. I bless the generosity of my donor family every day of my life, but we must legislate.
i think you have spoken for all transplant recipiants elwyn
It reinforced what I already believed.
I completely agree with him, it is a choice of every individual, if faced with the prospect id rather my transplant was taken from someone who had consciously approved consent or their families you cant assume an opt out policy thats barbaric regardless of who needs help.
i dont want to be buried I want to be cremated and scattered in the wind, and im happy to consent to donor transplants in the event of detah. i cant believe people are considering it to be compulsory.
This makes me feel confused and confused. I don't understand the speaker's point of view at all.
I'm sorry, but you're not making any sense at all. Having lots of people not dying is more important than having a few people not dying and feeling like they have been given a present. How can he have this viewpoint? Did it not occur to him that he would have had a much shorter waiting period and would not have had to endure years of false hope and increasing despair if it was opt-out?
As sweet as this seems, the donor does not know you individually and therefore hasn't given this gift to you personally! As grateful as anyone would undoubtably feel, it seems ridiculous to assume that you wouldn't be as thankful if this person as part of an opt-out system. All it would achieve would be more organs available for more livs to be saved.
