Great. Someone who thinks. But for every pioneer like Shane who tries to improve our quality of life, why do wee seem to have 10 more that wan't to drag us back into the stone age?

I totally agree with Shane McKee. I like to think that I'm a realist and live in the real world where not all children are born perfect. I know that if I was offered the chance of a healthy baby instead of a disabled one, i know that I would jump at the chance. I'm sorry if that gets all the religious fanatics worked up, but It is the way most normal people feel!! So get up and smell the cornflakes!!!

I am a little confused about your use of terminology. You spoke about embryos then lapsed into "eggs". Beware the subtext. Eggs ard the female contribution to the embryo, which is a product of male and female parts. I'm surprised at your lapse, not just from a medical perspective but also from a political one.

will we treat our children better if they are designed?

Dr McKee is an expert and knows the devastation and suffering caused by genetic disorders. Health comes before principles. That's why we have medicine. I'm sure Free Presbyterians and other Christians do not believe that illness and suffering is God given perfection. God gave us brains to help one and other. To lessen suffering is a Christian ideal. I'm grateful to medicine and ivf screening.

There's NO DESIGN. Please inform yourself how babies are made. Ivf or natural a sperm fertilises an egg. The healthy embryos are implanted into the uterus. Same as any kind of Ivf. NO DESIGN. SPERM and EGG. You were right Jenny when you said you were no scientist.
