This makes me feel angry, confused, angry and confused.

Why is Channel 4 wasting time debating this non-issue?

What a wonderfully written and spoken 4thought. I completely understood what she was saying and loved the way she spoke of the wonder of seeing what genes would be dominant in her grand children. If only everyone was accepting as this lady of other skin colours to their own.

I don't understand the speaker's point of view at all.

Her scientific/biological argument ignores the cultural divisions inherent in her progeny's upbringing. Their very roots will destroy any hope of a peaceful and united heritage UNLESS she immediately emigrates to a country where all influences are one-sided = completely unilateral.
How do know? Been there, done that, AND FAILED!

I think that all this mixing is causing more racism and people want a sense of belonging to a group this is why in this country we have a far right group and why we have religous extremist becuase people want a sense of knowing their culture and identity, which is very important in England yes its a diverse country but people of all races and nationalities have racism and prejudices like it or not.

As long as the children are taught to be proud and secure in both of their cultural origins I think it is an incredibly rich way to grow up. If we send our children to school to learn new
things openmindedly, why would we not view learning about two or more cultures first-hand at home a positive thing? Learning to accept difference instead of fearing it seems to sometimes be a tough challenge for people.

I don't understand why she made the point that a child born through diversity is, by a "biological perspective", is invariably better? I mean is it really necessary to make the point that one child of a certain origin could be, or could not be, better than another? Surely that isn't on - it, in my opinion, degrades her point that the right wing feels that a mixed race child isn't a good idea. I mean if you're penalizing someone because they're saying they're worse then you can't turn around and say that mixed race is better than another. Even if it is biologically proven that diversity is better for the child(or whatever, right? I'm not going to pretend I know a lot about biology)- my point is, we should remove these tags of "race" and "mixed race", at the end of the day it's not what should define you.

It's interesting that the far right often believe that racial purity is good for health and stuff. It makes sense that diversity is good for a species, especially in a changing environment: too much specialisation and you are in trouble if things change. However, there are people, members of the BNP, social workers and human resource departments, who love categorisation, and they find it unsettling when they can't label someone and develop expectations.

I completely disagree, because if you're not rooted in something, then you don't come from anywhere, and if there are no roots that go into the Earth you'll be moved around like a weed and ripped out! And someone stronger will rip you out. My final point and thought really that you haven't covered & considered is that if we raise mixed race children in mixed marriages in Britain and encourage it, is that we will eventually LOOSE our national identity. Which to remind everyone in Britain is that we are a fundamentally Christian > White > English, Welsh, Scottish & Irish > British society, and too much of race mixing will "wash-out" our identity and make our indigenous people a minority in their own country. Finally Britain has the HIGHEST miscegenation rate in the world!

That was such a lovely video, definitely having that as my favourite....

I can't believe that this question is still being asked in 2011. The theory of dividing humanity into races is bad science - a hangover from the British Empire of the 19th Century. Our children have different hair and eye colour - does that make them different races - one has more olive skin, the others quite pale? if you are a scientist, where is the scientific linear boundary between these so-called "races"? I thought science had proven there is only one race - the human race.
