Omar Kuddus offers a simplified view of what Sharia and Islam have to offer. I read many many newspapers from Islamic Countries every day and I can say that I read many many stories reporting on the exact same problems we have in the UK and West, such as rape, drug dealing ,drug taking, corruption etc etc etc etc in fact all the crimes "we have they also have" .SO Mr Kuddus how will Sharia Law and Islam be so perfect and better ?.

Tariq 14 Jan 2013 20:08

Sharia Law - Never!!!!!!!! There will be civil war before that evil idea try's to take over. Why do Channel 4 never have people arguing against this backward and nasty doctrine

Jay 14 Jan 2013 20:11

This is why the Muslims are so unpopular. They are a massive minority in this country. They have arrived recently and promote archaic principles to us. I think they should concentrate on making sharia rule work in a Muslim country before promoting it in a free society.

Jordan 14 Jan 2013 20:14

I really wouldn't want to live in a country governed under Sharia law. Though I realise the majority of Muslims wouldn't want Sharia for the same reason most Christians wouldn't want to stone gay people to death.

British citizen 14 Jan 2013 20:17

There is NO place for Sharia OR Muslims in Britain...they need to go to their "Homeland" if they wish to have their own culture and way of life AND laws.....there are sharia courts in Britain that need to go away...That IS NOT intergation that is trying to persuade a western society to be changed to an Arab way of life and morals.

The Quran seems pretty clear and firm on homosexuality... Those who see that have not "lost the plot" of this religion of "submission to authority" (of Allah, of the Quran.)

However, my opinion is that the problem is not with homosexuality, but with the very nature of the religion, and taking the Quran to be infallible. I can imagine what Shari law would have to say about my opinion, if it ever got its hands on me.

Gwilym 14 Jan 2013 21:10

sharia law does not belong in Britain as we are a Christian nation
and muslims are no better than what hittler wanted world domination

jim yeo 14 Jan 2013 21:10

just look at nali now wit islamic rebels wanting sharia law no thank you if thats the laws you want feel free to return to what ever islamic country you came from and leave the uk with our christian fith.

Tay709 14 Jan 2013 21:11

I found this programme an outrage and an insult to the British people this is MY Country if you want to live by Sharia law and part of islamic culture and religion then go back to an islamic country and do it....you preach this rubbish about harmony, peace and equality when in reality islam is possibly the most hateful intollerant and prejudiced religion on the planet, as least be honest about it....

Brichan 14 Jan 2013 21:24

If you actually listen to this video on the internet, Omar is anti-sharia.

Janice Mermikli 14 Jan 2013 21:14

I agree with Omar Kuddus The law should remain secular, giving protection and civil liberties to all citizens, regardless of race, creed or sexual orientation.

As a Christian, I do not agree with any imposition of sharia law in the United Kingdom, or anywhere else in the western world, which was founded on Judaeo-Christian ideas, not on Islam, and as a citizen I want the law to remain secular and to work for the benefit of all citizens.

Daku 14 Jan 2013 22:10

Well if I could venture an answer to his closing question; yes mate, I do think your religion has lost the plot. Sounds like we're in agreement here.

If Sharia is so good & perfect, please show me where in the world it actually works, where the people who are forced to live by it are happy to stay in that country..

Siriyaala 14 Jan 2013 22:02

Idiocy at its best! muzlims all over the world fight, bomb each other in the name of sect, cast, colour, origin and this man is trying hard to fool us. Dude this is a modern connected world, we all know what happens in almost every corner of the world.

All this talk about muslim brotherhood, then why are there so many muslim nations, not just one muslim nation?

Sunnis kill Shias, Saudis treat non-saudis as 2nd class, urdu speaking kill bengali speaking muslims, kurds are killed by sunnis. ahmedis are killed because of their beliefs, sufis are killed because of their love for music!

Pakistani muslims dont marry african muslims, saudis dont marry non-saudis, malaysian muslims dont marry bengali muslims...

Regarding poverty, why are those african, asian muslim nations suffering from acute poverty?

By propogating such beliefs, we are going back to the days when each of us stressed upon being superior, be it Catholics, Aryan, White, English, Westerns etc.

There is nothing called perfect especially when it comes to religions and beliefs. What we need is a way of accommodating each other, which is a good thing that is happening in some parts of the world like Britain.

Beth 14 Jan 2013 22:29

Omar, so many people are trying to get by, and compromise, and accept other people without a single solid printed list of black and white rules to live by.

We're waiting on you to clarify how no abortions would help women's rights.

kirri 14 Jan 2013 22:33

To say nothing of hanging sixteen year old girls who have been raped, for immoral acts!! Tell me there is ANY sort of justice in sharia law and I shall just about fall down laughing- if it were not for the fact that, living in Luton as I do, I know only too well that NO-ONE is joking- well, none of the Muslims, anyway! They are in a HUGE minority in this country- I have to say in the interests of free speech that their opinions are as valid as anyone else's but that does not mean, living as we still at this moment do, in a democratic society, we actually have to DO anything about it, or allow them to bully us into doing it on the grounds of prejudice! Were they to introduce this ridiculous, outdated, law into this country we women would not have a vote. What is their reasoning behind putting the country back two hundred years in one go? Well, NOT the q'ran, that's for sure as it's attitudes to women is actually slightly more enlightened than the old testament and the currently available gospels of the new testament!
Let's get one thing straight right now, whatever your religion, there is NO way you can claim your holy book was written by god- any god- it is not possible. Even the ten commandments were written down by Moses, therefore they were written by Moses, not by god. Then, over the years, well, translation, transliteration, basic male attitudes of the time (Oh HEAVENS- that CANNOT be right, I am SURE god meant such and such, not so and so) and then the throwing out of half the gospels because they gave women equal rights, in the fourth century, then King James rewriting it all because it did not quite give him the dominance over his subjects that he required.....you get the picture. However you feel about the q'ran the very fact that the whole issue of what a martyr can expect varies from a number of virgins through to a number of small sweet raisins, depending upon whether or not there is a dot, or is not a dot, or the dot is a squashed fly (yes, that is true, I could not make it up!)just makes you ask- "What else have you misinterpreted over the years?" (and , form a personal point of view..."Why do you keep trying to enforce the ethnic rules of your places of origin on women, when there is NO grounding for this in the q'ran??"

There are around 5% Muslims in England population and just as there are a range of different Christian denominations there are different Muslims groups they all do not even follow Sharia law. British law has already allowed for some of Sharia law to be used such as the slaughter of meat to be according to Islamic requirement and some Sharia courts to settle some matters however this is just for certain Muslims not for the whole of the Country to follow. All Sharia law would not be integrated into law of Britain for around 5% of the population because it is not compatible with the laws of Britain.

People who are gay should not be persecuted and be threatened, the Bible and the Quran states this is a sin however they are a range of sins such as adulterers, thief's, fornication etc and the Bible does not just focus on one sin.

Clearly if people know standards in religions and go against them they should be expelled from the religions if they do not repent as the Bible states. Go to work and go against the rules you get disciplined and if you persist the termination of your contract, the sack..

Mrbunnywunny 14 Jan 2013 22:35

Sharia law is cruel, medieval, discriminatory and criminal.it has no place in any culture, let alone the uk.

kirri 14 Jan 2013 22:43

I apolagise, to Mr Kuddus, and I think a number of other people on here are in the same boat. Due to 4thought for some unknown reason not putting up the current days broadcast my remarks are actually aimed at the broadcaster on the 14th January, Abu Usamah.

Jay 14 Jan 2013 23:24

Nothing, it brings absolutely nothing. If you want your precious Sharia law go live in a country that accepts it.

Lee 15 Jan 2013 14:00

Why follow any faith if this results in absolutism and intolerance? Why believe in a God that causes this? Why not just be you?

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?” Epicurus.

I am absolutely appalled by this person thinking that he can impose his will on a country that has offered him a place in his society? If he chooses to practice his religion this is his privilege, but he has absolutely no right to try to impose his beliefs and way of life on other people, which is essentially what he is trying to do. And what I believe, essentially, we have just tried to extradite someone else for!

He should go to a country which has similar beliefs if he chooses to live this way. I am NOT a Christian, but would never dream of trying to impose my culture and religion on other people. My family came here as refugees from anti-semitism (Naziism - another belief that caused millions to die!) and will be eternally grateful that England allowed them here where they were able to live safely - and without fear! I do not wish to think that another controlling, vicious, homophobic view of life could possibly want to impose their view of life on me. Let him keep quiet about his religion - who is he to think that he has the correct view of life?

Gary 15 Jan 2013 19:35

As an atheist and Infidel, sharia law has nothing to add to Britain. End of.

Inroads 15 Jan 2013 20:07

We already have sharia courts in the uk . Look at the Muslim arbitration pages setup under our government so we are in the slippery slope to the 1500 century as the government sells us down the river

British citizen 15 Jan 2013 20:11

Religious views are a personal matter and should not be forced upon those who do not follow it nor agree with parts of it. As a Christian I would never dream of going to a Muslim country and preaching my beliefs, this being said, I do not appreciate Muslim beliefs being preached in our country. Believe what you choose to believe and respect those who have faith in something different.

Zak 15 Jan 2013 23:01

What is Omar muttering about? Majority of Muslims in UK are not demanding sharia law! Another scaremongering, islamophobic statement courtesy of C4! Well done!

Zak 15 Jan 2013 23:04

The verse he quotes from the Quran in the beginning, is a lie! But hey it's channel 4!

Charles martel 20 Jan 2013 10:03

Sharia law is the biggest threat to democracy world wide it needs to be stopped. By force now. Mali. Kenya. Burma. Thailand. Sudan. Stop it now!
