Jains and Quakers.....the best religious people in the world. If only other religions would emulate how you guys behave.

Dr. Atul Shah

All Religions are a bit mad. Whether it's a creator God, several coach Load of Gods demi Gods and Godlings, an endless cycle of life, or a big wicker man full of chickens.

I try to be tolerant. What annoys me is not the demented rantings of someone whose just rung your doorbell to bring you good news, but those whose lives are permanently wonderful because they've discovered the true meaning of life. They haven't they are just being smug gits.

Is it possible? Yes.

Is it likely? No.

Science does not explain everything, but the scientific process inherently allows for change as knowledge increases. Without this ability, there would be no progress at all. Religion does not allow progress in thought or knowledge, as religious scripture are the "word of god" and as such must be infallible, being the result of divine inspiration by an omnipotent creator.

Religious thinking would not have allowed any progress in any of the sciences, medicine or any form of social change. We would still have slavery, we would accept the earth as being the centre of the universe and the population would be dropping dead from a multitude of divine plagues, mistakenly believed to have been sent as punishments from on high. All science asks for is evidence, but all religion can offer is faith.

it is not so much mad as absurd. I feel sorry for your monk friends if they think lifestyle can give them God or anything close. Spirituality is creationism and therefore all your assumptions are false (as per Richard Dawkins) no matter how hard you try to institutionalize them with nakedness or whatever.
We saw what happens when you have a borderless mind on 9/11. They killed children for something that does not exist but is neatly institutionalized. Richard Dawkins destroyed the creationist delusion by pointing out the actual God of the Old Testament and the "prophets" is Yahweh.
It is no wonder Quakers love you.

I agree with Mr Peter Atkins. What he says makes total sense to me and best describes how I feel about religion.

Layna Kate 29 Jul 2012 20:06

I think that the main point to this, is that you shouldn't discriminate against other people that have different beliefs to our own, when they're harming no other and living a happy for filled life.
This isn't about religion. It's about respect.

Dr Atul, I agree that Science has not explained everything but it can explain everything, it's just that we are at very early stages of research. I too feel the theory explained by Peter Atkins much convincing.
